Havana, Oct 10.- Cuban polo players Giraldo Carales and Rafael Contreras, of the Waterpolo Navarra club, will play this Saturday the final of the Euskal Herria Super Cup, in Spain, world power in the sport.
The finals will face Waterpolo Navarra and Askartza Claret in the men's branch and Waterpolo 9802 and Leioa WLB in the women's. This year there will be unique matches and they will be behind closed doors, due to the circumstances marked by the pandemic, according to a press release on the official website of Waterpolo Navarra.
At 6:00 pm (local time), the Cuban team will receive Askartza from Bilbao.
The duo, led by coach Manel Silvestre, will thus enter into competitive dynamics before the start of the league, since this will be the only pre-season challenge, one week before the debut in the Premaat League, the October 17 against the club CN Mataró.
In addition to Carales and Contreras, in Spain, Italy and Slovakia Cuban polo players of both sexes play, a presence that will soon increase with new contracts and scholarships.
Some signed by their own management and others by institutional means, all are eligible for Cuba teams, as confirmed at the end of last month by Antonio Cruz Ruiz, national commissioner of water polo, in statements to Jit, a publication of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation.
