Nicaragua organizes FAO Regional Conference for Latin America and the Caribbean

Managua, Oct 20.- Nicaragua is organizing the 36th Regional Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), which will go down in history as it will be held virtually.

The promoters predicted the success of the event as they expected representation from all of the 33 member states in the Latin American and Caribbean region.

Among the topics to be discussed is achieving healthy and sustainable diets for all, precisely the motto that identified World Food Day, celebrated last Friday.

Also part of the agenda is the effort to make rural societies more prosperous and inclusive, explained the FAO representative in Nicaragua, Iván León, in an interview with a local public television channel that he shared with the minister of agriculture. of the country, Edward Centeno.

Sustainable and resilient agriculture to climate change, and innovation and digital agriculture will complete the issues to be discussed among the more than 300 participants who will be interconnected at the online meeting.

The previous conference, held in Jamaica in 2018, entrusted Nicaragua with the organization of the 36th edition of these meetings, which will last until the 21st, Centeno recalled.

The government official pointed out that there is still much to be done in Nicaragua to defeat the main enemy, which is hunger plus poverty.

Similarly, he highlighted that in meeting the Millennium Development Goals, scheduled for 2015, Nicaragua was recognized by FAO two years earlier as the first country to overcome one of the purposes of the global program: to reduce by 50 percent the hunger and poverty of its population.
