We leave behind a year of great challenges and threats on all aspects, but also of victories, in which the essence of our socialist society, born of a genuine People's Revolution, endowed us with adequate moral and material tools, to face the Covid-19 pandemic and the intensified US onslaught against Cuba.
Many in the world wonder how it is possible for a people, such as Cubans, just 90 miles from the United States to get ahead of a commercial and financial siege that dates back more than six decades, with a high content of extraterritoriality, terrorist actions, identified in the internal counterrevolution, and the use of sophisticated fourth-generation weapons of war through cyberspace.
In this method of survival, Fidel trained us, who knew how to impregnate a will of resistance and triumph in an entire people to face attacks of any kind, as Cuba has shown, which has not stopped practicing daily the purest internationalism, materialized in the help provided to other peoples in more than 40 countries by the “Henry Reeve” Contingent, to face the new coronavirus.
In Cuba no one has been left helpless in the midst of the universal tragedy, on the contrary, action has been taken to preserve human life as the most precious asset, and all kinds of assistance have been provided to the most vulnerable population in order to minimize the contagious and lethal effects of SARS-CoV-2 as much as possible.
Meanwhile, Cuba, poor in natural resources but rich in intelligence, is one of the few countries in the world, and the only one in Latin America, which is encouragingly venturing into the search for vaccine preparations to counter the disease, with a view to immunizing all its population at no cost, as is practical.
This is how we receive in Cuba this new year, also loaded with challenges, where the decisive role of youth in social processes will be decisive, such as sure continuity and participation in national development, and in the midst of the inescapable economic and monetary order that challenges intelligence and vocation of Cubans, to preserve and advance the conquests of society, which the vast majority of us build.
The twelfth Yankee president, like his predecessors, leaves the White House in continued frustration at destroying the Cuban nation and its Socialist Revolution, whose people must face from now on the no less dangerous challenge of an administration, which, although less aggressive in appearance, it does not cease to use new methods to implant in Cuba a “democracy”, in quotation marks, where inequality, racism and the dominance of a rich minority prevail over the majority.
Cuba faces these combats in the year of the VIII congress of the Communist Party, that of continuity and with a government of the People's Power connected with the people, the main protagonist of the work, that as the ever-present Fidel said, no external force can destroy it, because "the destiny of this people will always be to grow with challenges."(Photo: File)
